KATHMANDU: Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal has urged the United Kingdom government to address the long-standing demands of former British Gurkhas, particularly the issue of proportionate pensions, through mutual agreement.
According to a social media post by the foreign minister on Tuesday (June 9), the issue was discussed during a virtual meeting held on Monday (June 8) with UK Defense Secretary John Healey and Minister for Veterans and People Louise Jones-Sanders.
Khanal said he emphasized the historical contribution of Gurkhas to Nepal-UK relations and called on the UK government to pursue a solution based on justice, fairness, and respect.
The discussion focused on unresolved concerns of ex-British Gurkhas, including demands for equal and proportionate pension benefits.
