KATHMANDU: The House of Representatives faced severe disruption on Tuesday as opposition lawmakers launched a coordinated assault against the government over national sovereignty and fiscal integrity.

Lawmakers fiercely criticized Prime Minister Balen for his May 31 parliamentary address, during which he allegedly stated that Nepal had encroached upon Indian territory.

Nepali Congress (NC) whip Nischal Rai condemned the remarks as “anti-national,” while CPN (UML) MP Kshitiz Thebe and Nepali Communist Party MP Mahendra Bahadur Shahi demanded that the Prime Minister personally appear in parliament to apologize and retract his statement, warning that history would not forgive such a compromise on national identity.

Simultaneously, the opposition escalated pressure on the Finance Ministry, exposing a major discrepancy between the Economic Bill officially registered in parliament and the version uploaded to the ministry’s website.

UML MP Thebe described the alteration as a massive financial manipulation that would require “a truck to carry if converted to cash,” demanding the Finance Minister take moral responsibility.

Amid the mounting scandals, MP Shahi also cautioned the Speaker against forcefully running the house, asserting that the government must address these critical allegations of territorial and economic misconduct immediately.
