BIRGUNJ: The Second Birgunj Gold Cup, 2081, will take place at Adarshanagar Stadium in Birgunj during the first week of March.
The tournament, organized by the Veteran City Club Birgunj, will run from March 1 to March 8, featuring eight national-level football teams.
The competition will be held in a knockout format. Sabin Basnet, President of the Veteran City Club, Birgunj, stated that the tournament aims to promote football culture in the Madhes province.
He noted that football activities in Birgunj were once widespread and expressed excitement about the participation of the Indian team alongside top-tier A Division League teams.
“We hope this tournament will play a significant role in the growth of football in the Madhes province,” he said.
The teams set to compete include Sankata Football Club, Machhindra Football Club, Bagmati Youth Club Sarlahi, Nepal Police Club, Garwal Diamond Football Club Delhi, API Church Boys United Kathmandu, Salhesh Football Club Siraha, and host Birgunj United Club.
Subodh Kumar Srivastava, the club’s treasurer and tournament coordinator, mentioned that the winning team will receive a cash prize of Rs 1,111,111, while the runners-up will earn Rs 555,555, along with a trophy, medal, and certificate.
