KATHMANDU: Speaker Devraj Ghimire has stated that National Democracy Day serves as an inspiration to remain dedicated to democratic values and ideals.

In a message of best wishes on the occasion of National Democracy Day, Speaker Ghimire paid heartfelt tribute to the brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives to fulfill the dream of democracy, people’s sovereignty, and civil liberties.

“The democratic movement of 2007 BS freed the Nepali people from the darkness of autocracy and brought them into the light of freedom,” the message reads.

“Thanks to the martyrs’ sacrifices, the country began its journey toward a republic, along with democracy and civil liberties. The people’s movement of 2062/63 BS marked the advent of the federal democratic republic by ending the monarchy,” the message stated.

Speaker Ghimire concluded by acknowledging that while the country has achieved significant success in political movements and revolutions, there is still much work to be done to bring about positive changes in the lives of the people.
