KATHMANDU: Lawmakers voiced a series of pressing concerns during the ‘urgent time’ of today’s House of Representatives session, urging the government to take swift action on various critical issues.
Mahesh Kumar Bartaula called on the government to ensure immediate medical care for 10 people injured in a Bolero jeep accident in Raksirang, Makawanpur earlier today. He emphasized that six of the victims are in critical condition and require urgent treatment.
Madhav Sapkota requested the Speaker to direct the government to investigate corruption allegations involving the Securities Board. According to him, an Initial Public Offering (IPO) had been halted due to demands for commissions, warranting a thorough probe.
Yogendra Mandal raised concerns about a family displaced by a devastating house fire on March 18. The fire not only destroyed their home but also claimed the life of their young daughter. Mandal urged the government to provide proper rehabilitation for the family, who are currently living in a madrasa shelter.
Thakur Prasad Gaire sought clarity regarding the status of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), amid reports that a new executive committee had been formed before the official term of the current committee had expired.
During the special hour, Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) lawmaker Ranju Kumari Jha urged the government to allocate funds in the upcoming fiscal budget to upgrade the stadium in Rajbiraj, Saptari. Highlighting that 70 districts actively produce national and international athletes, she also proposed establishing a cricket research center in Rajbiraj to foster talent development.
Janamat Party lawmaker Abdul Khan expressed concern over the ongoing human-wildlife conflict in Bardiya, which he noted results in casualties every month. He called on the government to take decisive action to address the issue. Khan also stressed the need for conserving the region’s black buck population and urged budget allocations for ventilator-equipped hospitals, improved transportation infrastructure, and support for local farmers.
Rekha Yadav of the JSP emphasized the importance of boosting domestic agricultural production and ensuring pesticide-free food. She also demanded that the government establish proper mechanisms for testing the quality of imported agricultural products.
Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP) lawmaker Sarbendra Nath Shukla reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to a non-aligned foreign policy. He advocated for a cooperative policy framework to effectively combat terrorism, stressing the need for its timely implementation in light of shifting global dynamics.
