KATHMANDU: The U.S. Embassy in Nepal and the Nepali Army held a commemorative event today to mark the tenth anniversary of the loss of six U.S. Marines and two Nepali Army soldiers during Operation Sahayogi Haat, a humanitarian rescue mission conducted after the 2015 earthquake.
The ceremony paid tribute to Capt Dustin Lukasiewicz, Capt Christopher Norgren, Sgt Ward Johnson, Sgt Eric Seaman, Cpl Sara Medina, and LCpl Jacob Hug from the U.S. Marine Corps, along with MAJ Tapendra Rawal and WO1 Basanta Titara of the Nepali Army.
The eight personnel lost their lives while delivering aid to earthquake-affected regions. Representatives from the U.S. Embassy and senior officials of the Nepali Army attended the event, reflecting on the operation and the cooperation between the two nations during the disaster relief efforts.
Operation Sahayogi Haat was launched in response to the April 2015 earthquake, which caused widespread damage and significant loss of life in Nepal.
