KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed corruption charges against former Dhanauji Rural Municipality chairperson Badri Narayan Singh and eight others for misusing Rs 3.13 million in special grants.

The federal government had allocated Rs 5 million and Rs 4.2 million in two fiscal years for market drainage and waste management. However, the municipality diverted the funds to build market sheds without proper authority, violating grant procedures and public procurement laws.

The CIAA found fake documents were created to show extended work beyond the contract deadline, though the project remains incomplete.

Charges have been filed under Section 17 of the Corruption Prevention Act against officials, including the vice-chair, former administrative officers, engineers, accountants, and the director of Ekta Suppliers and Construction.
