KATHMANDU: A seven-member parliamentary committee has been formed to investigate irregularities surrounding the alteration of the cooling-off period provision in the Federal Civil Service Bill 2082.
The committee comprises two members each from Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, and one member each from CPN (Maoist Centre), Rastriya Swatantra Party, and Rastriya Prajatantra Party.
The confirmed members are Jeevan Pariyar and Sushila Thing (Nepali Congress), Ishwari Gharti and Narayan Prasad Acharya (CPN-UML), Madhav Sapkota (Maoist Centre), Ganesh Parajuli (RSP), and Roshan Karki (RPP).
Parties submitted their nominations to Speaker Devraj Ghimire, who will formally announce the committee during today’s House session.
The bill initially included a two-year cooling-off period, but an amendment in the House effectively nullified this provision, sparking protests from lawmakers demanding accountability.
The committee’s mandate includes investigating the bill’s alteration, recommending disciplinary actions, and suggesting measures to prevent recurrence.
The committee has been given 21 days to complete its investigation and submit a report.
