Gorkha Durbar Museum visited by 122,000 tourists

GORKHA: One lakh 22 thousand 733 tourists have visited the Gorkha Durbar Museum in a year. In the last fiscal year 2081/82, domestic and foreign tourists studied and visited the museum, informed the museum chief Jayanarayan Karki.

In the fiscal year 2080/81, 119,187 people visited the museum. He said, “According to the latest statistics, the number of tourists visiting the museum is increasing every year.” Of those who visited the museum in the past year, 84,257 are domestic tourists.

During the same period, 36,298 students have visited the museum during their educational tours, while 175 SAARC countries and 2,030 foreign tourists from third countries have visited the museum.

According to him, this time, the largest number of tourists have visited the Gorkha Durbar Museum since its opening. The museum was opened to the general public and tourists in 2065 BS.

Tourists visiting the museum will be able to see the 44-foot-long Chinese sword of the then King Prithvi Narayan Shah, the architect of Nepal’s unification, weapons, utensils used during the unification of Nepal, costumes reflecting the identity of different ethnic groups, and musical instruments.

Spread over an area of about 68 ropanis, the museum is known as a place where one can study the entire history of Nepal’s unification. The palace, built in a traditional architectural style, looks attractive from the outside.

Tourists can spend hours wandering through the museum’s 12 different exhibition rooms, including the Royal Family Genealogy Room, the Divine Sermon Room, and the Oil Painting Room.
