UTTARKASHI, UTTARAKHAND: A cloudburst in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi district on Tuesday (August 5) has claimed at least four lives, while several others are feared missing.

The sudden deluge swept away multiple houses, with visuals of the destruction circulating widely on social media.

The cloudburst occurred in the catchment area of the Kheer Ganga River, triggering flash floods that inundated villages downstream, locals reported.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Indian Union Home Minister Amit Shah have spoken with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, assuring full support from the Centre.

Teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been deployed for rescue and relief operations.

Search efforts are ongoing to locate the missing, as authorities fear the casualty count could rise.
