KATHMANDU: Today marks Bhadra Shukla Tritiya (third day of the bright fortnight of the month of Bhadra), the day of the Haritalika Teej festival.
According to legend, in the Satya Yuga (the age of truth), Goddess Parvati observed a fasting ritual on this very day and was granted Lord Shiva as her consort.
On Teej, women observing the fast perform special worship and prayers dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
From early morning today, large crowds of devotees have gathered at the Pashupatinath Temple and various other Shiva shrines across the country.
Women observing the fast, dressed in traditional attire, are seen offering prayers with devotion.
It is believed that worshipping Shiva and Parvati on this day fulfills desires and brings happiness, peace, and prosperity to families.
While many women undertake a nirahara brata (fast without food or water), scholars of religious scriptures clarify that strict fasting is not mandatory.
Traditionally, women observe the fast for unwavering marital happiness and for the blessing of children.
The ritual is considered an auspicious act of devotion and dedication.
On the occasion of Teej, women gathered at Pashupatinath Temple from early morning, performing puja dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
Alongside the prayers, devotees are also celebrating with dance and music, marking the festival with joy and togetherness.
