QUETTA: A suspected suicide bombing at a political rally in the southwestern region of the Pakistani city of Quetta killed at least 11 people and injured 30 others on Tuesday evening.

The blast occurred as people were leaving a commemoration for the late nationalist leader, Sardar Ataullah Mengal. His son, Sardar Akhtar Mengal, who was in attendance, was unharmed.

According to security agencies of Pakistan, the bomb was detonated in a parking area near the rally.

Police personnel are investigating the incident as a suicide bombing, though no group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Quetta is the capital of Balochistan province, a restive region that shares borders with Afghanistan and Iran.

Both Islamist militants and Baloch separatist groups are active in the area, but none have taken responsibility.
