KATHMANDU: Asim Shah, a member of the House of Representatives representing the Rastriya Swatantra Party, has resigned from his parliamentary seat.
Shah cited the government’s crackdown on the ongoing Gen-Z protests, including the use of firearms against peaceful demonstrators and direct violations of citizens’ rights, as the reason for his resignation.
He emphasized that, despite repeatedly raising the voice of youth in Parliament, the government never listened or acted seriously.
Shah stated that the lives of children are more important than the security of the parliamentary building and accused the government of committing crimes by endangering lives to protect the premises.
Shah made it clear that remaining silent in Parliament or supporting flawed policies would constitute a betrayal of the younger generation, voters, and the nation’s future, prompting his decision to step down.
