KATHMANDU: Janardan Sharma alias Prabhakar, Deputy General Secretary of the CPN (Maoist Centre), has launched a new phase of campaign demanding the resignation of party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda.’
Following the Gen Z protests, Sharma prepared a 16-point analysis of the post-movement situation, concluding that the current leadership has lost its legitimacy. He has begun discussions within the party and intends to mobilize leaders and activists to push for Dahal’s resignation.
The protests on September 8 and 9 resulted in 72 deaths and widespread damage, including arson and vandalism at political party offices, leaders’ residences, government buildings, and commercial establishments.
Sharma argued that the Gen-Z movement exposed corruption, cultural degradation, and weaknesses in party politics, emphasizing that the positive lessons of the protests must be synthesized to open a new path for the country.
His proposal outlines several key measures. These include supporting the government to ensure smooth elections scheduled for March 5, 2026, forming an independent commission to investigate the assets of officials who have held office since 1990, and investigating the damage caused during the protests.
Sharma also advocates reforming the party leadership election system to a direct model, setting clear tenure policies, and transitioning to a fully proportional parliamentary system.
Additionally, he calls for a directly elected executive president, addressing issues of Dalit women and other marginalized groups, investigating incidents of cultural disruption and sexual misconduct, and establishing policies to protect martyrs, the disappeared, the injured, the disabled, and the elderly.
