Political unity vital: Former President Bhandari

KATHMANDU: Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has said political unity is a key to navigate well the present adversity.

“Coordination and cooperation among political parties irrespective of diverse ideologies is vital to solve the existing problems facing the country,” Bhandari said during an interaction on ‘Aftermath of Gen-Z protests’ organized in the federal capital on Friday. The former Head of the State stressed the need of lifting the country out of present difficulty.

Mentioning that the citizens are the source of power in a country, she reminded that citizens should therefore be made aware whether the political parties have worked in line with their philosophy, principles and policies.

At the programme, CPN (UML) Vice Chair Yubaraj Gyawali seconded the former Head of the State that the national unity is imperative at a critical time. He urged all political parties to participate in the elections.

A central member of the Nepali Congress, Umesh Jung Rayamajhi, said his party would launch a campaign of clean party organization.
Similarly, the former Chief Election Commissioner Neel Kanth Uprety viewed adoption of fully proportional electoral system could be helpful to wipe out political bickering and ensure stability.

Tribhuvan University Rector Prof Dr Khadga KC said it was the best time for political parties to introspect themselves seriously.

Former Head of the National Investigation Department, Deviram Sharma, said the morale of the police should be boosted before going to elections. Journalist Kanak Mani Dixit stressed conducting fair investigation into Gen-Z protests was essential to check impunity.

Journalist Dev Prakash Tripathi said that all-party consensus is only option to give political outlet to the country.
