Nepal sets modest target of 149 against West Indies

KATHMANDU: Nepal posted a modest total of 148 runs in their first match of the T20I series against West Indies, presenting a target of 149 in Sharjah International Cricket Stadium.

Batting first after losing the toss, Nepal managed 148 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

After a weak performance in the powerplay, captain Rohit Kumar Paudel and hard-hitter Kushal Malla put together a 58-run partnership for the third wicket, bringing Nepal close to the 150-run mark.

Rohit scored the highest for Nepal with 38 runs off 35 balls, including three fours and one six.

Kushal contributed 30 runs from 21 balls, hitting two fours and a six.

Gulshan Kumar Jha, batting at number five, added 22 runs, while vice-captain Dipendra Singh Airee scored 17 before getting out.

Other batsmen failed to make significant contributions.

For West Indies, Jason Holder was the pick of the bowlers, taking four wickets for just 20 runs in four overs.

Nevin Bidasi took three wickets in the same spell, and captain Akil Hussain added one more, wrapping up Nepal for a below-par total.
