KATHMANDU: Despite being part of the historic T20 International series held in the UAE, bowler Sandeep Lamichhane has been suspended for two matches.
According to the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), Lamichhane voluntarily decided not to play just 45 minutes before the first match between Nepal and the West Indies in Sharjah, held on September 27.
His absence from the lineup sparked wide discussion, as he did not appear in the match.
In a statement issued by CAN Secretary Paras Khadka, it was said,
“His decision negatively affected team management, fellow players, and Nepali cricket as a whole. Based on the recommendation of team management, he has been suspended from the remaining two games and the entire T20 series against the West Indies.”
Nepal secured a historic 19-run victory in the first game, but CAN stated that Lamichhane’s action raised questions about the environment within the national team.
Now, Nepal has shifted its focus to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia/EAP Final Qualifiers in Oman, scheduled from October 8 to 17.
The squad has already departed UAE for Oman, with the goal of delivering strong performances and securing a World Cup spot.
