KATHMANDU: The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has advised the public to avoid long-distance travel between October 3 and 6, citing the risk of widespread rainfall across several provinces.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, moderate to heavy downpours are expected in Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces during this period.

Officials have warned of a significant rise in water levels in major rivers, including the Narayani, Bagmati, Kamala, and Koshi, with some possibly reaching or crossing danger marks.

The Authority has urged heightened vigilance in flood-prone districts. In Bagmati Province, areas such as Kathmandu Valley, Kavrepalanchowk, Sindhupalchowk, Rasuwa, Makawanpur, and Chitwan face elevated risks.

Similarly, Koshi Province districts including Sankhuwasabha, Taplejung, Ilam, Jhapa, and Morang, along with Bara, Parsa, Sarlahi, Rautahat, and neighboring Madhes Province districts, have been identified as vulnerable.

The public has been asked to remain alert to possible flash floods and water surges and to take necessary precautions to minimize disaster risks.
