Nepal tourism earns Rs 88.66 billion in FY 2024/25

KATHMANDU: Nepal’s tourism sector earned Rs 88.66 billion in foreign exchange from 1,146,000 international tourists during the fiscal year 2024/25, according to the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB).

The highest monthly income was recorded in the peak mountaineering season months of mid-March to mid-April (Rs 9.87 billion from 124,000 tourists) and mid-April to mid-May (Rs 9.16 billion from 105,000 tourists). Mid-October to mid-November also saw high activity, generating Rs 9.14 billion from 123,000 tourists.

Comparing the data, tourism income in mid-July to mid-August 2025 reached Rs 5.37 billion, marking a 12.70 percent increase from the Rs 4.77 billion earned in mid-July to mid-August of the fiscal year 2024/25.

The tourism industry also attracted a foreign investment commitment of Rs 6 billion in a single month.

According to the Department of Industry, 79 tourism industries were registered until mid-September of the current fiscal year 2025/26, committing Rs 6.69 billion in investment.

This commitment represents 20 percent of the total investment of Rs 33 billion committed by the 236 industries with foreign investment registered from mid-August to mid-September, 2025.

Furthermore, the department’s data indicates that 304 foreign-invested tourism industries were registered in the full fiscal year 2024/25, with a total commitment of Rs 26 billion.
