KATHMANDU: A writ petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking to halt the functioning of the commission investigating the suppression and arson during the Gen Z movement.
The petition, filed by advocate Bipin Dhakal, names Gauri Bahadur Karki, chairman of the commission, and members Bigyanraj Sharma and Bishweshwar Prasad Bhandari as respondents.
It alleges that Karki and Sharma publicly expressed opinions in favor of Gen Z protests, demonstrating bias, and seeks an interim order to prevent the officials from performing their duties.
The writ also claims that Bhandari failed to question the partiality of the other two members, despite their evident bias, meaning the commission cannot conduct the inquiry impartially.
The commission, formed by the government under former Special Court chairman Karki, was tasked with investigating damage to public property and losses following the Gen Z movement.
It includes former AIG Bigyanraj Sharma and advocate Bhandari, who has worked with United Nations federal missions.
