KATHMANDU: The Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) General Secretary Netra Bikram Chand, also known as Biplav, praised the recent Gen Z-led protests for challenging the government, likening their sacrifices to turning an increasingly authoritarian regime to ashes.
Speaking at a demonstration in Kathmandu demanding an all-party interim government, Biplav said the young generation’s blood and sacrifices exposed the arrogance of state authorities and parliament.
“The state was blind, deaf, tyrannical, and becoming oppressive toward the people. Gen Z gave their blood, sacrificed, and crushed the power of corrupt rulers and parliament,” he said.
Biplav warned that the Gen Z movement faces the risk of faltering, comparing its potential collapse to the failures of the earlier Maoist insurgency.
He accused foreign-backed actors and domestic elites of attempting to capture the gains of the uprising and urged young protesters to organize systematically.
He also criticized the merger of ten leftist parties into a new alliance, saying his party had refused to join, and noted that Gen Z had achieved what political parties had failed to do.
The demonstration in Bhadrakali, Kathmandu, comes amid ongoing political turbulence following recent nationwide protests and the formation of an interim government.
