TANAHUN: Tanahu has recorded a rise in maize production this year.

In the past, farmers had to face pests during planting and harvesting maize, as well as lack of fertilizer. This year, there were no such problems, and the district produced a good amount of maize, said Kiran Pariyar, Crop Development Officer at the Agricultural Development Office.

In the fiscal year 2079/80, 67,15 metric tons of maize was produced from cultivation in an area of 22,238 hectares. In comparison, in 2080/81, 67,200 metric tons of maize was produced in an area of 22,348 hectares. In the fiscal year 2081/82, 73,246 tons of maize was produced from an area of 22,195 hectares.

“Tanahun is also a pocket area for maize production. Rishing Rural Municipality of the district is the first pocket area for maize seed production,” said Crop Development Officer Pariyar. Tanahun is suitable for paddy, maize, millet, wheat, soybean, and ginger production. It is also the major pocket area for orange production.

Meanwhile, tall corn stacks in the Darai Community Homestay in Dumsi, Byas Municipality-10 has become an added attraction for visitors.

Asha Darai, the operator of the Darai Community Homestay, says, “Guests are busy taking photos and making tik tok video of the huge pile of maize stacked in front of the house. This year, a lot of corn has grown, and the stack is also huge.”
