BRUSSELS: The European Union (EU) imposed sanctions Monday on two members of the Russian judiciary.

A statement said that EU member states imposed sanctions on Dmitry Gordeyev and Lyudmila Balandina. Under these sanctions, the two members of the Russian judiciary will be barred from entering the EU or using assets held within its member states.

The EU statement explained that the two individuals bear responsibility for gross human rights violations, the repression of civil society and the democratic opposition, and the undermining of democracy.
