KATHMANDU: The 13th Nepali Rastriya Poshak Diwas tatha Topi Diwas (National Dress and Hat Day) is being commemorated today through a variety of events organized by numerous youth organizations.
Under the slogan ‘Nepali Topi: Our Identity,’ young individuals have been observing this day for the past 13 years.
This celebration was established in 2070 BS to encourage the adoption of traditional Nepali attire, including daura, suruwal, topi, and gunyo choli, as representations of Nepali identity among the youth.
On this day, many individuals share images of themselves donning the national dress on social media platforms. For the last 13 years, National Dress Day has been observed on January 1st, which is believed to have aided in the resurgence of the national dress.
Following the cessation of its official celebration in the past, young people initiated this campaign on their own. Special events have been arranged at various sites across the capital today to mark this occasion.
