CHITWAN: A few months ago, a mother and her daughter from the United States arrived in Nepal as tourists and stayed at the Bharatpur-based Hotel Global.
One day, while they were inside the hotel premises, a street dog suddenly approached them. Concerned about the guests’ safety, a security guard immediately intervened and chased the animal away. In the process, the dog sustained physical injury and was forced to flee from the scene.
The incident deeply disturbed the mother and daughter. Unable to bear the sight of the harmed animal, their hearts softened with compassion. They requested the security guard to search for the dog and bring it back. Respecting their request, the guard managed to locate the animal.
Moved by love and empathy, the mother and daughter decided to take the dog with them to the United States, transforming a moment of distress into a lifelong bond. According to Binod Dhakal, who assisted the foreign guests with the necessary arrangements in Nepal, the dog finally reached the US this week.
“They had cried upon seeing the dog injured during the chase,” Dhakal said, expressing happiness over the outcome. “We are glad the animal is now safe and reunited with them.”
The mother, 50 and daughter, 16, had arrived in Nepal in June. Once they flew back to home, they arranged a caretaker to look after the dog at home.
The animal underwent regular veterinary check-ups and completed all required procedures before being flown to the US via Qatar Airways, with a pet passport and Fit-to-Flight clearance.
Now, the dog has safely reached Colorado. Dhakal shared that the mother and daughter spent more than USD 10,000 to bring the animal with them, reflecting the depth of their affection and commitment. “This incident reminds us of the true essence of human love for animals,” he said.
After arrival, the dog was kept in quarantine for two days and underwent a health check-up. Video clips sent to Nepal show the animal happily strolling alongside its new family, a living testament to compassion that crossed borders, he added.
