KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has sought explanations from 51 entities accused of violating the Election Code of Conduct. According to the Commission, the Central Code of Conduct Monitoring Committee has received 51 complaints so far. Explanations have been requested from the concerned political parties, candidates, and other entities, and responses have already been received in 30 cases.
The complaints involve political parties, candidates, government and non-government organizations, media outlets, and journalists. Law Officer Mohan Raj Joshi stated that in cases involving registered media outlets and affiliated journalists, letters have been sent through Press Council Nepal seeking clarification and necessary action.
At the district level, complaints related to Code of Conduct violations are also being received, and required actions are being taken accordingly. The EC stated that it is proceeding with necessary inquiries and legal processes to ensure effective compliance and to minimize violations.
For effective enforcement, the Central Code of Conduct Monitoring Committee, District Code of Conduct Monitoring Committees, District Code of Conduct Monitoring Officers, and respective Election Offices are actively engaged in implementation.
In accordance with Section 32 of the Election Code of Conduct, 2026, Code of Conduct Monitoring Officers have been designated in all 77 districts. Assistant Chief District Officers have been assigned to oversee non-financial matters, while Chief Treasury Controllers or Treasury Controllers are responsible for monitoring financial aspects.
The Commission stated that awareness campaigns and efforts to secure commitments from stakeholders to comply with the Code are being conducted efficiently across districts. In cases where violations are confirmed after clarification and response, the process of legal action has been initiated at the district level.
