DOHA: Iran has confirmed it launched missile and drone attacks on US military facilities across the Gulf and fired barrages of missiles toward Israel, escalating regional tensions after the United States and Israel carried out strikes on Iranian military and government targets early Saturday local time.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it targeted US bases in several countries, including Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar, Al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait, Al-Dhafra Air Base in the United Arab Emirates, and a US naval base in Bahrain. Iranian state media also reported strikes on Muwaffaq Al-Salti Air Base in Jordan and a US base in northern Iraq.
Nour News, an outlet affiliated with the IRGC, said Iran launched “dozens” of ballistic missiles toward Israel. Explosions were reported across multiple countries as air defense systems were activated to intercept incoming missiles. There were no immediate reports of casualties in Israel.
Authorities across the region confirmed interceptions. Qatar said it intercepted two Iranian missiles over its airspace, while Kuwait’s military said its air defense systems engaged incoming missiles. Jordan’s armed forces said they intercepted two ballistic missiles targeting the country. In the UAE, officials said several missiles were intercepted, but debris fell in a residential area, killing one civilian, according to the state news agency.
In Bahrain, one missile struck a US Navy facility, including assets linked to the United States Fifth Fleet, though no casualties were reported.
In a statement carried by Tasnim news agency, the IRGC said the attacks were carried out in retaliation for US and Israeli strikes on Iran and added that missile and drone operations were ongoing, with further details to be released.
