KATHMANDU: Newly appointed Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle has decided to publish a comprehensive economic status report reflecting the country’s current realities as one of three key decisions taken upon assuming office at the Ministry of Finance today.

Wagle also approved the implementation of recommendations from the High-Level Economic Reform Suggestion Commission 2024 and endorsed the repeal of 15 laws. The move will lead to the dissolution of several institutions, including the Department of Revenue Investigation, in line with earlier reform proposals.

The commission, formed under former Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel and coordinated by Rameshore Khanal, had recommended scrapping the department.

Additionally, Wagle plans to introduce new legislation to safeguard and promote private enterprises, facilitate large-scale development projects, and outline a roadmap for broader economic and legal reforms through amendments to existing laws.
