Former Prime Minister Oli arrested from residence in midnight, taken to Police academy

KATHMANDU: Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) and former prime minister KP Sharma Oli was arrested from his residence in Gundhu, Bhaktapur.

A team led by Senior Superintendent of Police Santosh Khadka was deployed from midnight to carry out the arrest. The operation involved personnel from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office along with multiple units of Bhaktapur Police.

Police reached Oli’s residence while he was asleep and maintained surveillance around the premises. He was taken into custody early Saturday morning upon waking.

According to police sources, Oli will be held at the Police Academy in Maharajgunj, where further legal procedures are expected to be completed by Sunday. He reportedly cooperated with authorities and traveled in his own vehicle alongside police officers.

The arrest followed a high profile meetings at the Naxal residence of the Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki, attended by Home Minister Sudhan Gurung. The Home Ministry subsequently issued a written order late night directing police to proceed with the arrest.
