KATHMANDU: Minister for Home Affairs Sudhan Gurung held on-site discussions with stakeholders about state of BP highway and possible future disasters in view of the upcoming monsoon.

During the inspection of the damaged highway today, Home Minister Gurung expressed concern about the incoming disaster and directed the security chiefs to be on a strategic preparedness mode to respond based on the kind of disasters that have occurred in the past and how they were managed.

“We should be aware of the type of disaster that has occurred in the past and work on preparedness for rescue accordingly. Ambulances may be obstructed, time is of the essence, hence we may have to rescue by helicopter,” he said and urged to manage the rescue efforts in coordination with the Central Disaster Management at Tribhuvan International Airport.

Home Minister Gurung also instructed the central security personnel and district-based security units to prepare accordingly.

During the monitoring, Home Minister Gurung was briefed about the works being done on the damaged highway by Chief of the Division Road Office, Bhaktapur, Senior Divisional Engineer Suman Yogesh, Namobuddha Municipality Mayor Kunsang Lama, and Roshi Rural Municipality Chair Dinesh Lama, as well as the heads of the concerned local levels.
