BIRATNAGAR: Police have arrested two individuals from Biratnagar Airport with Rs 2.688 million in undeclared cash.
According to Morang District Police Office chief SP Kabit Katwal, the suspects were taken into custody during routine security checks of passengers preparing to fly from Biratnagar to Kathmandu.
Police said that Rs 1.1 million was recovered from a bag carried by 35-year-old Diptip Tamang of Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City–18 in Sunsari.
He was detained at around 8:00 pm on May 1 while undergoing security screening for a Buddha Air flight.
Similarly, Rs 1.588 million was seized from 36-year-old Mohidit Ali of Sujaganj, Malda, India.
He was apprehended at around 5:35 pm the same day while preparing to board a Shree Airlines flight to Kathmandu.
Police stated that further investigation is underway against both individuals, along with the seized total amount of Rs 2.688 million.
According to police, both suspects have been kept at the District Police Office, Morang, for further investigation and legal action.
Authorities said that as cases of undeclared cash being seized from the airport occur almost daily, security checks have been further tightened.
