KATHMANDU: The CPN (UML) Secretariat meeting is currently underway, marking its first session since the House of Representatives elections held on March 5.
During the opening day of the meeting on Friday, held at Chairman KP Sharma Oli’s residence in Gundu, five Vice Chairpersons—Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’, Bishnu Paudel, Prithvi Subba Gurung, Raghuiji Panta, and Gokarna Bista—took the floor.
According to party leaders, the Vice Chairpersons took extensive time to share their experiences and perspectives.
Their remarks primarily focused on the current crisis facing the party, measures for transformation, and the necessity of reforming the party according to the present situation.
The primary agenda of the meeting centers on the division of responsibilities among leaders, a proposal that Chairman Oli had already presented last Monday.
Amid growing pressure for leadership transition, Chairman Oli is reportedly preparing to take disciplinary action against certain top leaders who have been critical of him.
Furthermore, during this meeting, Oli aims to determine the seniority ranking of the leaders elected in the 11th General Convention held in November 2025.
The meeting is also set to conduct an election review, assign departmental responsibilities, and form a team to discuss constitutional amendments.
The Friday session concluded with an agreement to reconvene on Saturday morning at 11:00 AM.
In Saturday’s meeting, Chairman Oli alongside 12 other Secretariat members, including the General Secretary, Deputy General Secretaries, and Secretaries, are scheduled to speak.
