DHAKA: Dengue infections are increasing across Bangladesh ahead of the monsoon season, while most district and divisional hospitals remain only partially prepared for a potential surge.

Patients are being admitted in rising numbers across several regions, but many hospitals are still treating dengue cases in general wards due to the absence of dedicated units, raising concerns over overcrowding and possible cross-infection.

Rajshahi has reported three deaths from 51 admissions, while Khulna has recorded 347 cases and two deaths. Chattogram, Mymensingh, and Barisal have also reported active infections, with Barisal recording the highest caseload at 1,149 cases.

Rangpur has seen only a few cases with no special preparations, while Sylhet remains the only division to open a dedicated dengue corner.

Health officials warn that infections are likely to rise further with the onset of the rainy season, even as hospital readiness remains uneven across the country.
