KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Education and Sports has appointed former national football team goalkeeper Bishal Shrestha as the Vice-President of the National Sports Council (NSC).

Shrestha, who served as a prominent member of the Nepali national football team for a long period, has made remarkable contributions to the country’s sports sector during his playing career.

Having retired from international football a few years ago, he now joins the leadership tier of the NSC, the apex governing body of Nepali sports.

In tandem with this appointment, the Ministry has also designated four new board members to ensure diverse representation across various sports disciplines.

The newly appointed board members include table tennis player Sikka Suwal, former international cricketer and coach Shakti Gauchan, chess player Monalisa Khumbu, and football player Pawan Shahi.

This decision by the Ministry is widely viewed as a progressive step toward increasing the participation of experienced athletes in sports administration.

The newly appointed officials are highly expected to play a pivotal role in the overall development, management, and policy reforms of Nepali sports.
