KATHMANDU: The House of Representatives has officially passed the Finance Bill, 2026 by a majority vote.
The bill was approved during Sunday’s parliamentary session following a formal proposal tabled by Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle.
Responding to lawmakers’ queries during the amendment discussions, Minister Wagle reiterated the government’s commitment to rigorous budget implementation, promising that the chronic issue of low capital expenditure will be resolved starting next fiscal year.
He assured the House that the newly introduced taxes would not impact low-income citizens and expressed confidence that the positive effects of the government’s ambitious economic reforms would become visible next year.
Additionally, Minister Wagle announced that a high-level study committee will be formed to evaluate the multi-rate Value Added Tax (VAT) system, with the ministry making future adjustments based on its recommendations.
