KATHMANDU: A delegation representing landless settlers, including Dal Mardan Kami, Parmila Rai, Jhabarlal Urao, Kalpana Thapa, Nir Kumar Magar, Ram Kumari Rai, Kamala Urao and Gopal Majhi, submitted an appeal to the Chairperson of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Top Bahadur Magar, at his office, urging the protection of their human rights.

Other commission members and the member-secretary were also present during the meeting. After receiving the appeal, Chairperson Magar stated that the commission had previously raised concerns with the government regarding the rights of affected families and pledged to further study the issues outlined in the petition before making necessary recommendations to the relevant authorities.

The delegation highlighted the conditions of landless and unmanaged settler families living in holding centers, alleging discrimination in relief distribution, a lack of dignified housing, and violations of their constitutional right to housing and other human rights.

They urged the commission to conduct an immediate field inspection, issue necessary directives, and facilitate their permanent rehabilitation with secure land ownership.
