KATHMANDU: Continuous nationwide rainfall has triggered widespread landslides and flash floods, crippling vehicular movement along several key highways and road networks across Nepal.

According to updates provided by Nepal Police as of Wednesday morning, critical transport corridors in Sindhupalchok, Ilam, Baglung, Panchthar, and Gorkha remain completely blocked.

To prevent casualties in high-risk zones, authorities have also placed strict bans on nighttime travel along several vulnerable highway stretches.

Under the new safety measures, all vehicular movement on the BP Highway’s Khurkot–Nepalthok–Katunje Besi section connecting Kavrepalanchok and Sindhuli has been suspended overnight between 6:00 PM and 4:00 AM until further notice, though daytime transit continues to operate.

Similarly, authorities in Makwanpur have banned all nighttime traffic along the Kanti Lokpath to ensure commuter safety amid deteriorating weather conditions.

Meanwhile, severe landslides have caused major arterial disruptions elsewhere in the country.

Blockages along the Araniko Highway in Sindhupalchok—specifically at Zerokilo and Kodari—have brought traffic to a complete standstill due to heavy debris and mudflows.

In Baglung, a massive rock-and-dirt slide has shut down the Kaligandaki Corridor at Belbagar, while continuous rains have triggered similar severe blockages along the Ranke–Rabi–Bhedetar road in Panchthar and the Arughat–Machha Khola stretch in Gorkha.

Though alternative routes are currently being utilized along Ilam’s Mechi Highway—where thick mud at Rajduwali rendered the main road impassable—most affected regions remain cut off.

With disaster risks remaining exceptionally high across the nation, Nepal Police has issued an urgent advisory urging citizens to verify real-time road conditions with local authorities before embarking on any long-distance travel.
