70-year-old killed in Myagdi landslide; three others rescued

MYAGDI: An elderly man was killed and three members of a single family were rescued unharmed after landslides triggered by continuous rainfall buried houses in two separate locations in Myagdi district.

In Beni Municipality-3, 70-year-old Lalbir Chhantyal was buried along with his house when a landslide struck from above while he was sleeping inside.

His body was recovered during search and rescue operations. Police stated that further investigation into the incident is ongoing.

In a separate incident on Monday around 2:00 AM, a landslide buried the home of Tak Devi Thapa at Lower Hadebhir in Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality-7, Dharapani.

All three family members inside were successfully rescued through the combined efforts of the police and local residents.

Among those rescued, Laxman Thapa sustained a minor injury to his right leg, while the other two are in normal condition.

No livestock were harmed, and surrounding settlements are not under immediate threat.
