KATHMANDU: Nepal and Canada pledged to expand their strategic cooperation in clean energy, trade, climate action, and investment as officials concluded the Fourth Meeting of the Nepal-Canada Bilateral Consultation Mechanism (BCM) in Kathmandu on Monday.

The high-level dialogue saw Canadian delegates praise Nepal’s leadership in green energy transition, electric vehicle adoption, and democratic governance, while Nepali officials showcased ongoing economic reforms aimed at unlocking foreign direct investment.

Co-chaired by Dilip Kumar Paudel, Joint Secretary at Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Jean-Christian Brillant, Director General for South Asia at Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development, the talks underscored six decades of growing partnership between the two nations since establishing diplomatic ties in 1965.

During the session, discussions spanned political relations, trade, climate change, information technology, and UN peacekeeping cooperation.

Both sides agreed to maintain momentum with regular consultations, scheduling the mechanism’s next meeting in Canada.
