DANG: Farmer Birendra Khadka has been cultivating strawberries commercially for the past two years.
Despite being in his twenties, Khadka has already achieved an annual income of Rs 600,000.
A permanent resident of Jabang Dudilabot, Madi Rural Municipality-1, Rolpa, Khadka shares that his strawberry farming in Jhingora, Ghorahi Sub-metropolitan City-14, Dang, is exceeding expectations.
Khadka is currently farming strawberries on 16 katha of land and has achieved a turnover of Rs 1.4 million per year.
In Dang, strawberries are sold for Rs 800 per kilogram. The produce from his farm is sold in local markets such as Ghorahi, Tulsipur, Lamahi, and others.
This year, Khadka has expanded his commercial strawberry farming to seven ropani of land in Rolpa.
Prithviraj Lamichhane, Information Officer at the Agricultural Knowledge Center in Dang, noted that daily sales of strawberries would be beneficial.
He pointed out that the local market is small, and emphasized the need for careful packing and transportation.
Lamichhane also mentioned that the region’s favorable air, water, and soil conditions make it ideal for strawberry farming.
