NEPALGUNJ: Trade activity has surged at the Nepalgunj border, the main trading point in western Nepal, with both imports and exports increasing in the current fiscal year.

According to the Nepalgunj Customs Office, imports from this border rose by 6 percent, while exports saw a 13 percent rise in the first seven months of the current fiscal year compared to the same period last year.

Information Officer of Nepalgunj Customs Office Pabitra Kumar Khadka stated that goods worth Rs. 42.34 billion were imported by January 12, 2025, marking an increase of Rs. 2.44 billion from the Rs. 39.90 billion recorded in the same period last year.

Similarly, exports from Nepalgunj amounted to Rs. 1.51 billion in the first seven months of the current fiscal year, compared to Rs. 1.33 billion in the same period last year, reflecting a growth of over Rs. 175 million.

Khadka highlighted that the notable rise in exports is a positive indicator for future trade expansion. The export of various oils, including herbal oils, has increased, along with major export items such as rosin, turpentine oil, dried ginger, broom, precious stones, and silajit paste. Additionally, exports of khair wood, essential oil, rittha, and butter and ghee have also seen significant growth.
