Farmers in Rukum Paschim sell 4 metric tons of honey in six months

TRIVENI: Beekeepers in Rukum Paschim district have sold a total of four metric tons of honey over the past six months, earning Rs 4 million, according to Lal Bahadur Bhandari, Information Officer at the District Agriculture Office.

The honey is sold for Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,200 per kilogram. Banphikot Rural Municipality and Athbiskot Municipality are the largest producers of honey, while Sanibheri and Triveni Rural Municipalities, as well as Musikot and Chaurajahari Municipalities, also contribute to honey production.

Around 200 farmers in the district are engaged in beekeeping, with 150 of them operating as commercial beekeepers.

The honey produced is sold locally and also exported to places like Surkhet, Dang, Nepal, and Kathmandu.

In a season, a farmer can earn up to Rs 300,000, added Information Officer Bhandari.
