KATHMANDU: After receiving positive feedback on the budget introduced by the government, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel has expressed confidence that its implementation will also be positive.
He asserted that achieving a 6% economic growth rate is possible. Speaking at a post-budget discussion program organized by the Nepal Association of Financial Journalists (NAFIJ) on Saturday, Finance Minister Paudel said that the budget was prepared by adhering to sound fiscal principles.
“The budget was brought by respecting limits. It has been built through proper resource management. I believe that the projected revenue target can be achieved within the upcoming fiscal year. We won’t allow a situation where questions arise at the end of the year,” he said.
Minister Paudel mentioned that meeting the revenue target would require some effort.
“Targets can’t be achieved without work—but the work will be done,” he said.
He emphasized that instead of worrying over the rising public debt, the focus should be on borrowing enough to pay interest and principal responsibly.
He urged not to worry excessively about resource constraints.
He said that he was encouraged by the positive feedback received from economic experts.
Highlighting the inconsistency in accusing the government of increasing expenditures while also demanding more spending, he clarified that the budget has been designed to mobilize resources appropriately.
He claimed the budget addresses the problem of excessive allocations to small and scattered projects.
He also stressed the need to prevent the misuse of resources and said the budget is cautious regarding petty, fragmented plans.
Minister Paudel explained that the budget was prepared based on the economic growth and inflation trends of the previous and current fiscal years.
He claimed the budget sends a message to the private sector that the government is committed to fulfilling its responsibilities.
He emphasized that the government is working across all sectors relevant to the private sector.
He also claimed that the budget takes strong initiatives to empower young entrepreneurs.
“The government is always ready to promote the private sector,” he said.
“The government is also working to resolve problems in the construction sector. It is prepared to amend necessary laws and regulations,” he added.
