KATHMANDU: Nepal’s interim Finance Minister Dr. Rameshwar Khanal said he has received a flood of complaints by email just hours after the ministry opened a new digital grievance system.
In a social media post Tuesday evening, Khanal said 166 emails had reached both the ministry’s complaint inbox and his official address within six hours of the service going live.
“I responded to nearly two dozen emails, and most have already been acted upon,” he wrote. “The remaining complaints will be answered as soon as possible. This system will eliminate the need for individuals and institutions to travel to Singha Durbar to resolve problems.”
The Finance Ministry announced earlier this week that citizens can report misconduct directly through two designated email addresses or a toll-free number. Complaints can include cases where ministry staff or officials at regulatory bodies, departments, offices, banks, or financial institutions delay services, fail to perform duties, exert improper pressure, or demand bribes.
Officials say the move is part of efforts to improve transparency, accountability, and service delivery across Nepal’s financial sector.
