KATHMANDU: Nepal has received foreign investment commitments exceeding Rs 35 billion in the first three months of the current fiscal year.
According to the Department of Industry’s monthly report on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), from mid-July to mid-October, a total of 311 industries received investment commitments amounting to Rs 35.13 billion (approximately Rs 35.14 billion).
The department reported that during this period, commitments were made for 7 large, 4 medium, and 300 small-scale industries.
From mid-September to mid-October alone, 75 small industries received FDI commitments worth Rs 2.45 billion.
To date, Nepal has approved total FDI commitments of Rs 686.55 billion across 7,550 industries, according to the department.
By sector, the information technology sector accounted for the highest number of projects, with 162 industries receiving commitments worth Rs 153.7 million.
However, in terms of investment value, the tourism sector led with 103 industries attracting commitments totaling Rs 1.46 billion.
Other major sectors included manufacturing, with 15 industries receiving commitments of Rs 211 million; agriculture, with 11 industries receiving Rs 40 million; and the service sector, with 19 industries drawing Rs 181 million in FDI commitments.
