KATHMANDU: The government has so far approved the construction of three new transmission lines in the current fiscal year.

According to the Department of Electricity Development under the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, a key approval has been granted for the Nalgad–Maintada transmission line, which is considered crucial for connecting the Bheri Corridor to the national power system.

The transmission line will stretch 75 kilometers and operate at 400 kV capacity, enabling the transmission of up to 2,400 megawatts of electricity.

The project will be constructed by the National Transmission Grid Company. Similarly, approval has been issued for the 33 kV Khorunga Khola transmission line, which will be 4.38 kilometers long and capable of transmitting 4.8 megawatts of electricity.

This line is being built to connect electricity generated from a hydropower project to the national grid.

In addition, Super Shardi Khola Hydropower has also received approval to construct a 33 kV transmission line that will be 3.68 kilometers long and capable of transmitting 2.9 megawatts of power.

The Department of Electricity Development stated that, as of now, it has issued a total of 274 permits for the construction of small and large transmission lines across the country.
