Government breaks record with Rs 21.73 billion spent in a single day

KATHMANDU:  On Asar 25 (July 9), the final day before government accounts were frozen, the Government of Nepal spent Rs 21.73 billion under the budget system—part of the Rs 352 billion allocated for development in FY 2081/82 (2024/25).

According to the Financial Comptroller General Office (FCGO), this raised total capital spending to Rs 208.34 billion, or 59.13% of the capital budget.

Wednesday marked the deadline for most payments, leading to a record single-day capital expenditure. In comparison, last year’s final-day spending was Rs 14.40 billion. Overall, the government spent Rs 1.505 trillion, or 80.91% of the annual target of Rs 1.860 trillion. This includes 85.82% of the recurrent, 59.13% of the capital, and 86.56% of financial management budgets.

From midnight, all government accounts have been frozen for one week, as per fiscal regulations. Only essential payments are allowed with FCGO approval.

Meanwhile, revenue collection stood at Rs 1.097 trillion—just 77.39% of the Rs 1.419 trillion target. Tax revenue reached Rs 993.88 billion and non-tax revenue Rs 103.84 billion.
