Govt secures Rs 273.46 billion in foreign aid commitments in FY 2024/25

KATHMANDU: The government has secured foreign aid commitments totaling Rs 273.46 billion in the fiscal year 2024/25 through agreements with bilateral and multilateral donors to fund various projects.

According to the Ministry of Finance, this includes Rs 57.5 billion in grants and Rs 215.54 billion in loans. Of the total, Rs 43.51 billion is bilateral aid and Rs 229.53 billion is multilateral aid.

Major donors include China, Japan, Switzerland, Germany, the World Bank, and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The UK pledged Rs 140.94 million for infrastructure projects, while the World Bank committed Rs 4.9 billion for road improvements.

Other significant contributions came from Japan, Germany, Norway, Switzerland, and the European Union. ADB remains the largest donor, providing over Rs 106 billion in loans and grants.

This year, the government secured 33 foreign aid commitments targeting sectors such as infrastructure, transport, environment, governance, social welfare, and irrigation.
