KATHMANDU: The five-star Taragaon Regency Hotel (Hyatt Regency) in Kathmandu has closed indefinitely following extensive vandalism during the ‘Gen Z’ movement on September 9.

The hotel’s human resources director announced the closure, stating that 70 rooms and the lobby were severely damaged, requiring extensive repair and renovation.

All commercial services have been suspended due to the significant damage to the structure, equipment, and security systems.

Employees have been requested not to report to work until further notice.

Management is prioritizing the safety of workers and plans to consult with trade unions.

The hotel will only reopen after repairs and reconstruction are complete.

Hyatt Regency Kathmandu, operating since 2000, is a prestigious five-star hotel with 303 rooms.

It was a major destination for domestic and international tourists, government guests, and international conferences.

Approximately 500 people were directly employed by the hotel, which has also been recognized multiple times as a top tax-payer in the tourism sector.

The hotel plans to provide service and benefits to its workers as per the law.
