JICA team inspects progress of 140 MW Tanahun Hydropower Project

TANAHUN: A delegation led by Matsuzaki Mizuki, head of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Nepal, visited the under-construction Tanahun Hydropower Project in Jhapatar, Rishing Rural Municipality-1, Tanahun district, to monitor its progress.

The project, with a capacity of 140 megawatts, has received significant investment from JICA along with support from the Asian Development Bank, European Investment Bank, and the Government of Nepal.

During the site visit, the team inspected construction activities under packages one and two and held discussions with project officials including the project chief and supervisory consultants.

According to project chief Shyamji Bhandari, dam construction is 42.5% complete, the underground powerhouse 67%, and transmission line work 74% finished.

The project aims for overall completion by mid-July 2026, with a total estimated cost of approximately 50.5 million USD funded through multiple international and government partners.
